Archive for October, 2009Mens trail running is one of the very best sports that I really enjoy. To me there is nothing better than heading out there and running in the wilds. The tranquility and fresh scents are engaging and motivating. This mens trail running site is all about the joy and love that I have for trail running and that I want to share with you. Please understand that this is an open site where the information on trail running and cross country running is relevant to women just as much as it is to men. So join us please, young and old, female and male, fit or unfit at mens trail running and start learning all there is about the fabulous sport that is trail running. We welcome you if you are just starting out on your fitness journey or even if you have run the Western States Endurance run. Which by the way is a terrific mens trail running event that has tons of very strong female competitors. I have loved mens trail running ever since I first started out in the cross country running team in junior high. I’ve done my share of road running, but there is nothing better than running on mountain trails, across streams and through wild grass. Especially if you are just starting out on the adventure of mens trail running you would be hard pressed to find something as much fun as a short or long cross country run through woods and fields where the clean air fills your lungs with the damp and fragrant scent of pine needles and wildflowers. If you are older and you’ve been running a long time, there is no need to punish your knees and joints anymore on hard pavement. Trail running is exponentially kinder on your joints and knees and hips. I’ve run amongst 80 year olds on some of the mens trail running events that I’ve taken part in. These older men and women can still move tremendously well. So if you’ve been thinking about hanging up your running shoes, please don’t. I urge you put your running shoes back on, tie up the laces and head out for even just a short trail run. At mens trail running we hope you’ll share your love of trail running or cross country running as it is sometimes called. I’d love to hear from you. What are some of your favorite spots? So please join me as we explore all aspects of mens trail running. Men and women of all ages are starting to embrace trail running for fitness and health. Let’s take this journey together where I hope to share with you the fundamentals of trail running as well as talk about mens trail running shoes, running shoes reivew, New Balance trail running shoes, wide running shoes and so much more. Mens trail running is for your health and enjoyment. Dear fellow runner, welcome again to my mens trail running blog, a blog for womens trail running too! This post is all about New Balance trail running shoes. One of the best, in my humble opinion brand of running shoes and especially trail running shoes. Today I’m going to write a little about 2 types of New Balance trail running shoes, these 2 I’ve chosen because they’re simply the 2 best New Balance trail running shoes I’ve come across. In the interest of fair disclosure, I own a pair of the New Balance Men’s MT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe or New Balance Women’s WT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe for women. But I’ll do my darnedest to remain objective :O) Okay, since I’ve spilled the beans, why don’t I start with the New Balance Men’s MT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe. I love it, I have a pair of these and I’m thinking of getting a second pair too. I prefer to let each pair of my trail running shoes rest after a run for at least 24 hours. I think 48 hours is best. The 2 things I like the best about this my first of my 2 New Balance trail running shoes is the look and the grip. The look of the shoe is not only aesthetic but also crucial to comfort. I like the way that the mesh encases my foot like a sock. It’s somewhat stretchy so that it creates a very comfortable feeling. But more importantly, this trail running shoe has unparalleled grip. I’ve taken it along dry, dusty trails as well as along muddy, wet and slippery exposed rocks. I never felt my grip to insecure at all. The second of my 2 New Balance trail running shoes that I like is not really a trail running shoe, though I’ve used it as such and it holds its own against the New Balance Men’s MT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe. The running shoe I’m talking about is the New Balance Men’s MR1224 Running Shoe or New Balance Women’s WR1224 Running Shoe for women. This is also a great shoe, but I don’t use it on the slipperiest of trails. Again, the first thing I like about this shoe and indeed why I’m a fan of just about all New Balance trail running shoes is the mesh they use to grip your foot. It is just unbelievably comfortable. The other thing that the New Balance Men’s MR1224 Running Shoe and New Balance Women’s WR1224 Running Shoe excels at is foot stability. New Balance uses a TS2 medial post and extended web for increased stability. And it shows. This is one of the best stability shoes I’ve run in. Alrighty, there you have it. I think it future posts I’ll do a specific review of each shoe if there is enough interest. First choice amongst New Balance trail running shoes is the New Balance Men’s MT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe or New Balance Women’s WT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe if you’re a women. Hope this post was useful to you. Robert Hey fellow trail runners. I want to try and share with you today some tips on wide running shoes. I personally have wide feet and so I know how challenging it can be to find wide running shoes that fit properly. Over the years I have experimented in finding out ways to make sure that I always get the best possible fit in my wide running shoe. Especially in wide trail running shoes. However, the information that I’ve gathered over the years can be used to find the best fit for any type of wide shoe not just trail running shoes. So let’s have a look see. Understanding shoe sizing can be quite an art. Especially as there are different measurements being used around the world. I’ll try and give you some idea as to the measurement of mens wide running shoes and womens wide running shoes. Assuming that most of you are from North America, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe I’ll skip out on talking about the Asian sizing system. Boy, this stuff can get complicated. It is the sizing or length of the shoe that is most varied. The width which is what we are most concerned with as far as wide running shoes goes is quite easy to explain. So let me start with that first. Wide width running shoes come in one of 4 ways of measuring. The first is the Mondopoint system which just uses mm as width measurements, this is not a very common measuring system of wide trail running shoes although it is the international standard and is used by NATO and other military organizations. The 3 other systems are simpler but not quite as accurate. They use letters and number to measure the width of the shoe. These are: A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE, EEEE, F, G or 4A, 3A, 2A, A, B, C, D, E, 2E, 3E, 4E, 5E, 6E or lastly N (narrow), M (medium) or R (regular), W (wide). These numbered/lettered systems are probably the ones that most of us are familiar with when looking for running shoes for wide feet. My personal favorite is New Balance wide running shoes. I have a pair of the New Balance Men’s MT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe size 8.5 4E if you must know :O) This great shoe is also available for women as the New Balance Women’s WT571 Outdoor All Terrain Trail Shoe. So I hope you’ve found this article on wide running shoes helpful. I’ll try and go into a little more detail at another time, and I’ll be sure to offer a wide running shoes review in an upcoming post. Now get out there and run for your life. It’s good for you! Hey again fellow trail runners, today I want to write to you about mens trail running shoes and my mens trail running shoe favorite. Now the good news is that these trail running shoes are also great for women. So ladies, if you see me talking about mens trail running shoe, just read in womens trail running shoe. Shoe manufacturers are becoming more savvy and designing shoes that they then offer for both sexes. This is terrific news. Now one small caveat. If you’re a woman, don’t choose a mens trail running shoe, and if you’re a man don’t choose a womens trail running shoe. I know I’ve been tempted. Sometimes one or the other sexes shoes go on sale. Don’t do it. There are physiological differences between men and women and when it comes to running this is one are where you shouldn’t cheap out. Your trail running shoe is extremely important. I’d argue the most important aspect of trail running. Not to dismiss trail running apparel, but the shoe is king. Running naked is not really an option, but more important in my humble opinion is the mens trail running shoe you choose. My first choice happens to be the Adidas Men’s Megabounce. And there is the Adidas Women’s Megabounce as my fav womens trail running shoe.
I love this shoe mostly because of the following features. I just find adiPRENE to be one of the best absorbing materials that I’ve had on the bottom of my feet. It just gives really nicely without being spongy. The other thing I like is the BOUNCE ™ technology that has been newly introduced by Adidas and it works in a way that your momentum is used as energy to propel you forward as your heel to toe strikes the ground. Now I don’t know if this has been scientficaly proven but I’ll tell you that my last few runs in the Adidas Men’s Megabounce did seem to be noticeably easier. And I’m sure I’m not getting fitter. So that my friends is my top choice for mens trail running shoe and womens trail running shoe. The Adidas Megabounce has one minor drawback, for me anyway. I’m just not really taken by the design of the shoe. Nevertheless it works. It has a great price point, and I love it. I’ll post a more detailed review soon. Now get out there and go for a trail run. This article on men’s trail running will give you just a brief overview about what trail running is really all about. And it is not only just for men. In fact, this style of running is enjoyed by both young people as well as retired folks, by men as well as women. Trail running is a terrific way to both get some great exercise as well as enjoy the great outdoors. This type of running is also better on the joints and ligaments than your standard running on streets, bike paths or tarmac. I hope that after reading this article you will get out there and go for a run with nature. Nothing can be more exhilarating than the smell of pine and damp leaves underfoot as you travel along the paths in between trees and brush. It is such a rush, that only experiencing it can you really understand the joy. Thankfully, men’s trail running, and when I say men I am really including all folks who trail run, is becoming a much bigger sport as years go by. But what is it exactly. What makes trail running different from running in the park or on the street? Let me explain. So many people complain that running becomes boring or too difficult as they age. Running on hard surfaces jars the joints over time, even with today’s super cushioned shoes. But even those who have given up on regular running are able to find a renewed love affair with the outdoors and exercise when taking up trail running. Trail running is basically any running that takes place in “real” nature. This does not include a nice job around the bike path at your local park. In fact most of us are used to trails that we hike in on the weekends. Well friends, if you choose to run or jog these trails, give yourself a pat on the back, as you’ve just done some trail running. One of the great joys of men’s trail running is the inexpensiveness of the sport. All you need is a good pair of trail running shoes which can be had for less than $100. Join us next time when we explore more ways for you to enjoy men’s trail running for everyone.
